COLUMBUS TELEGRAM AUGUST 14, 1939: Funeral Services of John Boss, Sr., held today. Funeral services for John boss Sr, 78, a resident of this community for nearly 70 years, who died at 1 pm Saturday at St Mary's hospital, were held at 2 pm today at the Mckown funeral home, with Rev. Herman H Goede, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran church officiating. the body was laid to sepulcher in the Gruetli cemetery. The pallbearers were five sons, John, Fred, Edward, Clarence, and Glen Boss and a nephew, Carl Blaser. Mr Boss had been in poor health for the last two years, although his condition was not regarded as serious. Early Saturday morning he suffered an internal hemorrhage at the Meridian hotel, where he made his home, and he was removed to the hospital. His death came several hours later. a native of Arrwangen, in the canton of Berne, Switzerland, he was born Apr. 28, 1861. His parents brought him to this country in 1868, and they located on a farm in the Guretli neighborhood, where he grew to manhood. He left the farm to become a steam engineer, and followed this trade most of his life. He worked in Columbus for the light plant and also operated the steam engine on a threshing outfit for many years. With the exception of a two year period when he lived in Colorado, he made his home in Platte county. He was a lover of music and was an accomplished violinist. One of this real pleasures was being engaged to furnish music for old time dances in this community. His hobbies were hunting and fishing and he devoted a great deal of time to these sports. His first marriage was to Miss Elizabeth Gerber in 1893. Four sons were born to them - -John, of Clarks, and Fred, Oscar and Herman of Columbus. Mrs. Boss died in 1901. His next marriage, in 1916, was to Miss Clara Gerber of Duncan. They were the parents of three sons, Edward, Clarence, and Glen, all of Columbus. Their marriage ended in a separation several years later. He is survived by his seven sons, three grandchildren, Evelyn, Raymond, and LaVern Boss of Columbus: four half brothers, Chris, Fred, and Louis of Silver Creek and Carl, whose address is unknown, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Paul Blaser and Mrs. Mike Blaser of Duncan.
