Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Mr. Mann was born Sept. 4, 1917, to Allan and Emma Goehring Mann. His father died when he was young. He and siblings worked to keep the ranch going. He went through the 10th grade at Kent School. When he went to Burwell for school, he was able to go home two times during the school year for Christmas and then when school was out. He graduated from Burwell High School in 1935. He married Stella Harpham on April 5, 1941. They started out at the home place, farmed and ranched on different places in the Burwell area, and returned home in 1962. After his wife died in 1995, he continued to live there until his death. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His sons respected his strong mechanical ability and relied on him whenever they needed help in making equipment work. He was quiet, pleasant and willing to do what he could. He enjoyed his cattle and farming, sorting at the Burwell Sale Barn from 1952 until retirement in 1983 and taking tickets at the Burwell rodeo for years. The couple enjoyed playing cards with friends as well as their association with the Burwell Methodist Church and Kent Korner Klub. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Kathy Mann and Gaylord and Sandra Mann, all of Burwell; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Eunice Mann of O'Neill; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Clarice Stelling of Grand Island and Dorothy and Les Rolfsmeier of Seward. He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Ralph. The Grand Island Independent, Oct. 19, 2001
