Bio
' Donn Maulsby Kurtz was born on January 8, 1918 in Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa, the son of Glenn Ward Kurtz (1892–1971) and Marissa Glenora (Maulsby) Kurtz (1894–1987). He married 1st on February 22, 1941 in the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Moorland, Iowa to Helen Gertrude Byrne (1913–1987), the daughter of George Francis Byrne (1885–1960) and Mary Theresa (Papousek) Byrne (1892–1980). He was married 2nd to Nancy Lonette -- . A US Army Air Force veteran who served during World War II and the Korean Conflict, Donn later was a US Postal Service carrier and for many years was a fund raiser for United Way. Retiring in 1975, he was an ordained Methodist Lay Minister and served as pastor at several Methodist churches. Retiring from the ministry, he still taught Sunday School at First Methodist Church until he passed away. He was 84 years old when he passed away on September 24, 2002 at home in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana following a short illness. Preceded in death by his parents and his 1st wife Helen B Kurtz, while survivors included his widow Nancy, three married daughters, two married sons, brother Robert Glen Kurtz in El Cajon, California, sister Mary Katherine Protheroe & husband Dick Protheroe of Punta Gorda, Florida, sister-in-law Sarah Schlater & husband Jim Schlater, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial Services were held on September 28th at Mangum Memorial Methodist Church, and burial was in Concord Church Cemetery at Chatham.
