Bio

' Helen Gertrude (Byrne) Kurtz was born November 14, 1913 in Moorland, Webster County, Iowa, the daughter of George Francis Byrne (1885–1960) and Mary Theresa (Papousek) Byrne (1892–1980). A graduate of Iowa State Teachers College, she was married on February 22, 1941 in the Church of Our Lady of Good Council in Moorland as the 1st wife of Donn Maulsby Kurtz (1918–2002, the son of Glenn Ward Kurtz (1892–1971) and Marissa Glenora (Maulsby) Kurtz (1894–1987). Helen and Donn were later divorced. Helen was a retired school teacher living in Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, and she was 73 years old when she died May 23, 1987 at a hospital in Alexandria. Survivors included two sons, a daughter, six brothers, two sisters and eight grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Alexandria, and burial was in Alexandria Memorial Gardens.
