Herald Coaster, April 19, 1999: Funeral services for Mary Alberta Selig of Guy were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Needville. Dr. Robert Hayes, Jr., District Supervisor of the United Methodist Church and Brother Jimmy Arnold of the First Baptist Church, Woodsboro, officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg. Mary Alberta Catchings Selig went home to be with her Lord Saturday, April 17, 1999. She was born March 7, 1911 in Williamson County. She was a lifetime member of the Fort Bend County Fair Association, past president of the Needville Lions Club, and she helped with activities, arts and crafts with seniors at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home. Since 1960, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Needville where she was the past president of the United Methodist Women. She made beautiful flower arrangements for the church and she served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. She also cooked meals for senior citizens. She was an avid horsewoman and hunter. She and her husband, Lester, owned and operated Twin City Tractor Co. in Richmond for many years. She is survived by her husband, Lester, of Guy. They were married March 26, 1960. She is also survived by her sisters, Willie Horner of Woodsboro, Marie Foust of Kilgore, Allie Simpson of Mineral Wells, Birdie Capps of Conroe, Ivy Autry and Opal Monrad, both of Woodsboro, and many nieces and nephews she cherished as her own. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Aid Catchings and Lillie Pearl Smith Catchings; brothers, Lesley Lee Catchings, Clarence Catchings, and J.C. Catchings; and sisters, Mable Glenn and Ida Cooper. Funeral services were under the direction of Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors, Inc., 3103 School Street in Needville, (409) 793-4515.
