ORD — Hubert Donald Bowley, 97, of Ord, formerly of Taylor, died Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Valley County Health Systems in Ord. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Taylor Cemetery, with Wayne Hasselquist officiating. Military rites are provided by Burwell Legion Post 0298. Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Bowley was born June 22, 1917, at Motley, Minn., to Oscar J. And Leora Fleming Bowley. Hubert attended grade school at Taylor and graduated from Taylor High School in 1935. In 1938 at the of age 21, Hubert was appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Postmaster at Taylor. In 1944, he enlisted in the Navy, where he served as a mailman 3rd Class in San Francisco, Calif., until honorably discharged in March 1946. Hubert returned to Taylor and continued to serve as Postmaster until he retired in June 1972. He married Twilla V. Marsh on May 31, 1941, at Broken Bow. To this union one son, Donald Lee, was born. After his retirement, Hubert and Twilla enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing at Lake McConaughy and trips to the casinos to test their luck. In 1997, they purchased a home and moved to Ord. Hubert enjoyed servicing his vehicles and mowing his yard well into his 80s. On Jan. 2, 2013, they moved to Valley View Living Center at Ord. Hubert is survived by his wife, Twilla; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Doralea of Taylor; grandson, Brian (Wanda) of Burwell; great-grandson, Brandon (Sara) of Grand Island; great-granddaughter, Emilee of Burwell; and great-great-granddaughter, Addalyn of Grand Island. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Waunita Russell of Tucson, Arizona, and brother-in-law, Bob Marsh (Merlene) of Hastings, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Leora Bowley and sisters, Ena, Myrtle, Nettie, Elsie and Della.
