Born Szentjanos, Moson, Austria-Hungary (now Szent Janos, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hungary), the son of John and Lizzie (Trummer) Grutel. Married Mary Vanis on November 13, 1894 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Omaha, Nebr. '''''''''''''' Omaha World-Herald (Omaha, Nebr.), Morning, January 12, 1937, p. 18, col. 3 IN SOUTH OMAHA John Grutel, 68, of 5902 R street, died Sunday at a local hospital after having been ill since April with heart trouble. Surviving are five sons, Andrew E., Emil, Edward, William J. and Louis J., all of Omaha; a brother, Joseph, Glenwood, Ia. Funeral services will be this morning at 8:30 from Brewer-Korisko chapel, Twenty-fourth and K streets, to Holy Ghost church at 9. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery. ____ col. 5 DEATH NOTICES GRUTEL – John, age 68 years, January 10, 1937. Survived by sons, Andrew E., Emil, Edward, William J. and Louis J.; brother, Joseph; eight grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday, 8:30 a.m., from Brewer-Korisko Chapel, 24th and K Sts., to Holy Ghost church, 9 a.m. interment St. Mary’s cemetery.
