Bio

BULLINGTON, John, b. 1844, d. 1913, "Cpl Co. F. 16th. Rgt TN Cavalry CSA" John & Mary were first cousins. John was a Corporal in F. CO, 16th Regiment Calvary & 8th Tennessee Militia Confederate Infantry CSA. He was under Gen. Joe Wheeler and Gen. Savage. His pension number is #S7500 Davidson Co., TN. John's war experience was as follows: June of 1861 he drilled at Camp Trousdale TN near KY border near Gallatin, TN He was at Cheat Mt. in Western Virginia under Robert E. Lee. Then to south Carolina in Winter of 61-62. In April of 1862 he went to Corinth MS. In the summer of 62 into KY with Braxton Bragg. Then in Oct of 62 he was in the Battle of Perryville where he is wounded twice. Then he convalesces for 60 days which would put him back for the battle of Stone River(Murfreesboro) in late Dec. or early Jan of 1863. In Sept of 63 he was at the battle of Chickamauga in Northern Georgia. After Chickamauga he transfers to Dibrell's 8th Cavalry which is attached to Joseph Wheeler. He goes to Fort Sanders to fight in support of Gen. Longstreet. Then he supported Gen. Joseph Johnston on his retreat to Atlanta as Sherman forces them back. After that, he goes into TN as a diversionary tactic with Wheeler, and he misses the fall of Atlanta. He pursues Sherman on his "March to the sea" Com 1864. He later join in the Battle of Bentonville in NC in early spring of 1865. Dibrell's 8th Cav. escorts Jeff Davis out of Greenville, NC. John & Capt. Jim Lowe leave the group and John is captured in Valley Head Atlanta. (Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalry is in Alabama and John may have been headed to join him.) John is put in prison in KY for refusing to take the Oath of Allegiance for the Union.
