Bio

David Earl Combs, age 73, passed from this world into his heavenly home on Friday, March 20, 2015 at his residence in Amarillo, Texas. There will be a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2015 in First Nazarene Church, 5201 S. Soncy with Lonnie Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. David was born at home to Robert Henry and Constance Forrester Combs in Atlanta, Texas on January 21, 1942. He married Linda Carole Tooley from Hereford, Texas on July 24, 1965. His education includes a high school diploma from Pine Tree High School in Longview, Texas in 1960 and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1973. He was certified to teach all levels of music, social studies, and physical education. He also had many other education credits and was an avid reader because he was a life-long student who always wanted to learn more. Between high school and entering college, he spent sometime in the U. S. air force. He was an adventurer who wanted to fly airplanes. In April 1986 David received a certificate of ordination from the Church of the Nazarene. He pastored churches in Hamlin, Texas and in Canyon, Texas in the 1980′s. However, he was a coach and teacher for the majority of his adult life, a position he used to encourage many young people to fully embrace life with a positive attitude. More than once, he received the Who's Who among America's Teachers award. Coach Combs loved God, his family, singing gospel music, teaching, coaching, and watching football. David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Combs in 1997. Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; a son, Thomas Cole of Canyon; two daughters, Janella Kami and husband TC of Kodiak, Alaska and Crystal Dilley and husband John of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, Thomas and Dianna Combs, Christian and Bradley English, Lukas and Carissa Dilley, Isabella and Noa Kamai; and two sisters, Marie Bradshaw and husband Leon and Dorothy Combs.
