Dana Kay Paris Hurta of Ingleside and Victoria, Texas passed away on July 17, 2012 in Victoria, Texas. Dana Kay, the only child of Mattie Belle and Dana Paris, was born on March 14, 1936 in Navarro County, Texas. Dana Kay grew up in the home of educated parents with strong Methodist ties in the communities where they lived. She graduated from Palacios High School in 1954 and married Billy Joe Hurta, her teenage sweetheart from Matagorda County, on July 4, 1954. She later graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught in various fields of science for 29 years in the Gregory-Portland Independent School District where she enjoyed her students and shared her love for animals and plant life with them. Dana Kay was a protector of all animals and a lover of nature. Dana Kay enjoyed traveling and experiencing the cultures and scenery of different countries. She has traveled to Canada, Mexico, China, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand. Closeness of family and nature brought Dana Kay great joy in life. Meeting at the family home in Victoria, she surrounded herself with her loved ones. She is survived by her husband, Billy Joe Hurta and her three children and their families: Joel (Debbie) Hurta, David (Lesley) Hurta, and Cindy Hurta. The Hurta grandchildren and great-grandchildren are: Brandon (Angelica) Hurta and their children Andrew and Braylee; Justin (Tara) Hurta and their children Peyton, Cole, Olivia, and Jaxin; and William J. Jimenez. A Memorial Service will be held July 21, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Victoria. Arrangements with Colonial Funeral Home, Victoria, TX.
