Bio

Louis was born in Ganado, Texas, to parents Vaclav and Annie Kubena Parma. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Emil, Jerome, and Edwin; sister, Agnes Matocha; and grandson, John Zwartjes. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Christine Jasik Parma; children, Jeanette Zwartjes and husband Michael, Shirley Swoboda and husband Melvin, Dennis Parma and wife Retta, Karen Coburn and husband Dewayne; brother George Parma and wife Shirley; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Louis graduated from Jourdanton High School, Draughon's Business College, and the American Institute of Banking at SMU. He was a career banker, starting as a clerk at Bexar County National Bank in San Antonio in 1941. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps as a gunnery instructor at the Harlingen Army Air Base. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to the bank where he rose to vice president of commercial loans, retiring in 1993 from successor bank, Bank of America. He was actively involved in the business community, spending a long tenure on the San Antonio Retail Merchants' Association Board, Texas Animal Damage Control Board, and serving as an officer and president of the local banking association. He modeled financial responsibility and assisted many people over the years with their financial planning. Louis was a devout Catholic, and with Christine, was a founding member of both St. Thomas More and St. John Neumann Catholic Churches. He served both church communities in every capacity from Eucharistic minister to Council member to yardman, and he was often recognized for his faithful contribution to the Church. He served his Lord faithfully and was generous in his time as well as his money. He imparted his strong faith to all of his children who have followed him in service to the Church. Louis was a man who was greatly admired by all who knew him. He was so pleasant, full of fun, affection, and laughter. He loved playing golf and doing yard work with Christine. Known as the King of Puns, he kept his family chuckling at his word plays. His grandchildren adored him and enjoyed rides on his back, playing pool and learning his tricks, and enjoyed his generous spirit. Many happy hours were spent at Granny and Grandpa's warm and loving home, a place of joy and comfort. More importantly, he was a man of faith and integrity. He and Christine set a wonderful example of marriage to their children and grandchildren. Louis was totally devoted to his beautiful wife and showed the world what true love looks like. He left a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew him.
