Bio

This is a blend of two men named Silas Monk. One Silas Monk married H (Harriette) Schoonover in 1842 in Lamar County TX; their children included Elizabeth Margaret and Isaac Henry. This is probably the Silas Monk that married Mary/Polly Fisher in Apr 1853 in Washington County TX. Silas and Mary resided with chidlren in 1860 in Robertson County TX and in 1880 in Mason County, Texas. This Silas Monk is probably the Silas Monk who died in 1881 in Mason County Texas. This Silas Monk was probably the son of Willis Monk and Frances Holley. Silas Monk and Willis Monk had adjacent land grants in Texas. Silas was probably born in Georgia (1880 census), but the 1860 census stated he was born in Alabama. Another Silas Monk married Nancy Bunn(?) and resided with her and their children in 1850 in Talladega County AL and in 1860 in Calhoun County AL. The children in the census both years included Cyntha, Persnelia/Permila, Marcus, Missouri and William. More review needs to be done with this memorial. Suggested edits are welcome. The wrong Silas Monk is linked to the wife and children of a different Silas Monk uncertain birth and death dates and places No evidence supports a birth on 29 Aug 1810 at Vowells Mill, Natchitoches, Louisiana.
