Bio

Charlie Ferguson, 76, of West, passed away early Monday, March 2, 2015, at his residence. A rosary will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, followed by visitation until 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrants. Burial will follow in Bold Springs Cemetery. Charlie was born in West, Texas, to the late George E. and Sophie (Koval) Ferguson. He attended schools in West. Charlie was the groundskeeper and maintenance manager for St. Mary's School and St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West for 45 years until he retired in 2015. Charlie received the Lumen Gentium Award for his years of service to his church and community from the Austin Diocese in 2007. He previously worked for the West Cotton Gin and Fleetwood Mobile Homes. Charlie was very faithful at his job and loved those he worked with. Charlie was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the K.J.T. Society #31. He dearly loved his mother and took great pride in taking care of her until she passed away and visiting her grave every day since. Charlie enjoyed playing the accordion, visiting with friends at Exxon Tiger Stop, going out to eat, going to Praha every year with Father Ed, riding on the lawn mower, and especially visiting with the children and St. Mary's School where he was known as "Mr. Charlie." He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Ferguson; and a sister, Evelyn Janek. Survivors include sister, Lucille Cervenka and her husband, Bob; several nephews and nieces and their spouses and children; his present and former co-workers; many many friends, including Phillis and Kevin Chupik and their children, Tiger and Brittany and Bunny and Chuck Felderhoff; and several other relatives.
