Herald Coaster, February 16, 1979: Edward Steinocher, Sr., 72, a custodian at Lamar High School, was found dead from an apparent heart attack in the high school vocational agriculture building shortly before midnight Thursday. Justice of the Peace C.B. Watson pronounced Steinocher dead at the scene. Time of death was placed between 7:30 pm. and 11:30 p.m. Thursday. A fellow custodian interrupted a meeting of the Lamar Independent School Board after finding Steinocher on the floor. School administrators rushed to investigate. Attempts to revive Steinocher by cardiopulmonary resuscitation failed. Funeral services have been set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Davis Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A retired farmer, Steinocher joined the school district as a custodian in 1972. His wife, Annie, is also employed as a custodian at the high school. Stinocher's son is local photographer and businessman, Edward Steinocher, Jr. His survivors include his wife; son; six sisters, Rosie Kubenka of Hallettsville, Annie Barta of Moulton, Cecilia Lidiak of LaGrange, Bessie Kelso of Austin, Emma Wind of Houston, and Sophie Baker of Pasadena; a brother, William Steinocher of Flatonia; and one grandson, Jeffrey Edward Steinocher of Rosenberg. Friends may call at the Davis Chapel after 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
