Ervin's obituary was added to his memorial on Nov. 6, 2023 ----Judy Johnson Services for Ervin M. Mattson, 87, Creighton, were Saturday morning at Stonacek Memorial Chapel in Pierce. Burial was scheduled for Prospect View Cemetery in Pierce. Visitation was Friday at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, with a prayer service. He died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Avera Creighton Hospital in Creighton. Ervin Mauritz Mattson, son of Henning and Mary (Vyhlidal) Mattson, was born July 18, 1927, in Duluth, Minn. Ervin attended Pierce County Rural Dist. 26 and graduated from Pierce High School in 1945. He was involved in 4-H during his younger years. Ervin served in the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1948, some of that time in post World War II in Italy. When he returned back to Nebraska, he farmed with his parents southwest of Pierce. Ervin's father died in 1964, and he continued farming until his mother died in 1993. He then moved to Creighton. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Ervin is survived by two sisters, Deloris Matteo of Fremont, and Lorraine Walton of Pierce; two sisters-in-law, Gwen Mattson and Evelyn Mattson, both of Pierce; 17 nieces and nephews; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Allen, Marvin and LeRoy; brothers-in-law, Joe Matteo and Harold Walton; and six nieces and nephews.
