Services for Robert Lane "Bob" Smith will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Alexandria, with the Rev. Vic Vead officiating. Burial will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under direction of John Kramer & Son. Smith, 72, of Alexandria died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. He graduated from Menard Memorial High School in 1945, attended LSU-Baton Rouge and graduated from Louisiana College. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served on Gen. MacArthur's Honor Guard. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Menard Athletic Association for 30 years. Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Smith, Jr. and Bradley C. Smith Sr., both of Alexandria; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Robert Lane Smith III, Bradley C. Smith Jr., William Gaston Smith, Greg Jones, Mark Neely and Charlie Frankis. A wake service will begin at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
