Mary Lou Hazal age 62 of Camden, Ar. was born to Paul Eugene Hazal and Eupha Smith Hazal September 10, 1952 in Greenville, Texas and passed away February 15, 2015 in El Dorado, Ar. Mary Lou grew up in Celeste, Texas graduating as Salutatorian in 1971. She graduated East Texas State University (A&M-Commerce) with double major in Journalism and Political Science 1975. Mary Lou was named to Who’s Who in Colleges as nominated by the faculty. Her senior year she served as managing editor of The East Texan; was a winner of the Greenville Herald Banner Scholarship in journalism, member of Women in Communications; Pi Sigma, political science honor society; Alpha Chi, senior honor society; and Alpha Lambda Delta, freshman women’s honor society. Mary Lou started work for Greenville Herald Banner as staff writer after graduating and obtained her Masters in Public Administration at Wichita Falls in 1980. Mary Lou worked over 20 years for Texas A&M Commerce in their communications department and received Meritorious award in 2007 and the Professional Achievement Award in 1996. Mary Lou was active in Press Women of Texas and the National Federation of Press Women. She has received numerous awards including “Best of Texas” 2004. The Hazal family enjoyed gospel music singing in quartets and making trips to Tennessee to see the professionals, the Oak Ridge Boys being Mary Lou’s favorite. She also enjoyed country, rock and roll and more. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry Hazal. She is survived by two nieces Theresa Dowell and husband Bobby, Camden, Ar.; Ginger Rodgers of Tennessee; seven great nieces and nephews and many great great nieces and nephews and many friends.
