Bio

Clara E. Thun, 94, of Elk, passed away Thursday morning in a Waco nursing home. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2006 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Elk. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Clara was born on the Smith Ranch in Limestone County, Texas, to the late Joe Frank and Emily Dusek Adamek. At the age of six, she moved with her family to the Elk Community. On October 15, 1930, she married Willie Thun at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. They were the first couple to marry in the newly built church at that time. She worked for the Axtell School District for 22 years before retiring. Clara was affectionately known as "Granny," to the children who knew her and to those that loved her very much. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Willie, on August 7, 1982; sons, Wheldon and Clarence Thun; and great-granddaughter, Abby Stecher. She is survived by sons, Bill Thun and wife, Joann, of Elk, Kenneth Thun and wife, Izetta, of Waco, Michael Thun and wife, June, of South Carolina, and Tom Thun and wife, Sheila, of Elk; daughters, Patsy Thun, of Elk, and Linda Dennis and husband, Preston, of Axtell; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Olga Adamek; and numerous nieces, nephews, and all of her friends.
