Funeral services for Melvin J. Schott, 92, Tipton, IA, formerly of East Moline, are 1PM Monday, Jan 4, 2010, at St Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 2-5 pm on Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd ,with a rosary at 1:30pm. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Melvin died December 29, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. Melvin was born on Feb. 28, 1917, in Hills Iowa, the son of Alex and Anna Stengel Schott. He married Maureen Cox in 1939 and together they had two sons; Gerald and James. He retired in 1979 as a machinist from International Harvester Farmall, Rock Island. He was a life member and past governor of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and playing cards. He also belonged to the Mississippi Wood Carvers. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Pat Schott, Tipton, IA and James and Kathy Schott, Moline, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a brother Raymond Schott of Tipton. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Francis, Charles and Leo and a sister Thelma.
