Bio
Rena's grave reports her date of death as 1 April 1970, based on her death certificate. But the date on her death certificate is 12 April 1970, while her Social Security records report the date as 15 April 1970. Rena married Samuel Darnell Holt on 2 June 1898 in Ardmore, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. That area became Carter County, Oklahoma, with the creation of the state of Oklahoma in November 1907. They divorced sometime before the 1920 census. In that year, the census reported Rena living in Washington Township (south of Ardmore in Love County), reported as Widowed. In that era it was common for divorced women to report their marital status as widowed. Her son Glenn Gardner Holt was head of the household at age 19, with the younger children of Sam and Rena still in the household. I have not found a census entry for Sam for the year 1920, but in 1930 he was reported in Sn Diego, California. Oddly, he was reported as Married, but there was no wife reported with him. He was living in a boarding house. Only two months later, Sam died there in San Diego. his death certificate reported his wife as Vivian Holt. No further information is found for her.
