Clara (Tietjen) Wessels, 94, of La Grange, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in La Grange, Texas. Clara was born in Rutersville, Texas on April 19, 1920, the daughter of Elo and Lydia (Wied) Tietjen. She married Ed Wessels on March 3, 1946 in Rutersville, Texas. Clara and Ed owned and operated Tietjen’s Store in Rutersville for over 40 years. Clara was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville, Altar Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, Hermann Sons Lodge and a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing dominos and dancing. Ed and Clara both belonged to the Swiss Alp dance club. She is survived by son, Clarence Wessels and wife, Pat, of Cuero, Texas; daughter, Carol Averyt and husband, James, of La Grange, Texas; six grandchildren: Michele Kelly and husband, Randy, of Cuero, Texas; Kris Parker and husband, Mark, of Austin, Texas; Anthony Wessels and friend, Donna, of La Grange, Texas; Ryan Wessels and wife, Kristen, of Victoria, Texas; Heather Bush and husband, Brad, of College Station, Texas; Jamie Zbranek and husband, Aaron, of La Grange, Texas; thirteen great grandchildren: Cameron, Colby and Michaela Berger; Charlee and Kash Wessels; Emerson, Sutton and Tripp Parker; Reese Wessels; Braden and Ainsley Bush; James and Annette Zbranek. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed Wessels; two sisters: Earlene Mitchon and Dorothy Schaefer. Funeral Services will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rutersville Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, 208 W. Pearl, LaGrange, Texas.
