Bio
Dr. J.M. Orr, who had sought for almost half a century to bring improved medical and health care to the Collingsworth County area, died unexpectedly while working in his office Tuesday, Oct. 3. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. in First United Methodist Church, Rev. Jesse Dea, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Raymond Dyess. Burial will follow in North Fairview Cemetery under direction of Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors. Dr. Off, who was president of the Collingsworth General Hospital Board of Directors at the time of his death, had lived in Wellington since December, 1945. Dr. Orr was born May 20, 1918 in the Plaska community of Hall County, the youngest son of the late Minton Newton and Nannie Vallace Orr. He received his education in Plaska and Memphis schools and graduated from Littlefield High School. He attended Texas Tech University and graduated from the Dental College in Houston in 1941. On Nov. 22, 1941 he was married to Elizabeth Cathlyn (Betty) Hook in Richmond, Tx. He taught at the University of Texas School of Dentistry until 1945. In 1953 he was called into the United States military service and was stationed at Brize-Norton Air Force Base in England. He returned to Wellington in 1955 to resume his dental practice. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Surviving Dr. Orr are his wife, Betty, three daughters, Lynda Davis of Amarillo, Jane Thomas of Wellington and Ann McLain of Dallas, and four grand-children. Also surviving are a brother, Dr. William N. Orr, Grand Junction, Co., three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Mae George, Memphis, Tx., Mrs. Ouida Brooks, Albuquerque, N.M. and Mrs. Laverne Heith, Tyler. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arvin and Leo Orr
