Bio
Sylvia Leona Swisher passed away January 14, 2015 and has gone home to be with her Lord. She was 98. She was born July 11, 1916 at Dime Box, Texas to Frank and Rozalie Blaha. She attended school for the first year and half at Dime Box. In 1924 her parents moved the family to Tilden, Texas where they bought a ranch. She went through the 10th grade at Tilden as this was the last grade level offered at Tilden. Sylvia moved back to Dime Box and stayed with her older sister in order to complete her last years of school. She later took a beauty school course in San Antonio and obtained her beauty operator's license. She married William N. Swisher, and they had one son, William Lee (Bill) Swisher. The marriage ended in divorce soon after his birth. During WWII she worked at the draft board in McMullen County from 1941-1945. She then opened a beauty shop in Tilden and worked at this job for 60 years. Her shop was the only beauty shop in the county. She also drove a school bus and managed a mobile home park. The last few years of her life she moved to Alice to be near her family. Sylvia loved life. She loved her Lord, her work, her fellow man, and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rozalie Blaha, her four sisters and two brothers, and her only son, William (Bill) Swisher. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carol Swisher of Alice, her three grandchildren, Carolyn Swisher of Alice, Sharon (Jeff) Daniels of Alice, and Willie (Cristy) Swisher of Odem. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Stephanie and J.W. Swisher, Caroline and Walker Daniels, and Eric Swisher and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2015 from 6:30 PM until 7:00 PM. Graveside Service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Hilltop Cemetery in Tilden, Texas.
