Times Record News - Nov 26, 2007 NOCONA - Earl W Nunneley, 80, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Nunneley was born in Anson, Texas, the oldest son of W.E. Nunneley and Gladys Fannin Nunneley. His early years were spent in Olney and later Saint Jo, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1945. He attended Texas A&M University majoring in Electrical Engineering and North Texas State College, and was a graduate of the Naval War College. He married Mildred Whatley of Denton, Texas, in 1950 and began his business career as an independent Telephone Company entrepreneur in Decatur, Texas. Later, he was an Independent Oil & Gas Producer, a Ford Automobile Dealer, a Rancher, a Real Estate Developer. He was a Scout Master for more than 20 years, and received the Order of The Arrow and Wood Badge. He was a former Chairman of the Private Industry Council, Nortex Regional Planning Commission, Director of the Montague County Tax Appraisal District, and Volunteer director of the Drought Contingency Plan for Nocona and Northern Montague County. A sculptor and artist, he is featured in the newly published book, WEIRD TEXAS for his "Ground Art". A dedicated Christian who lived by example, he taught Sunday School, was a church Trustee, and served as a Youth director for high school and college students. With his generosity and belief in higher education, he provided scholarships for numerous students to various universities and mentored many young men and women in their business careers. He was a private pilot for more than 60 years and was very proud of his Cherokee Indian Heritage. He is survived by his wife, Mildred of the home; daughter, Karen and husband Dr. Warren D. Young of Wichita Falls, daughter, Barbara of Bartonville, daughter, Beth and husband Jon Mazziotta of Dallas; son, Jeffery and wife Brenda and their daughter Sarah of Houston, and their son, Grant of Texas A&M, son, Christopher and wife Amy of Mirmingham, Alabama, and their children Ella & Jackson; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and a brother, Jerry and wife Raenell of Saint Jo. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26th at First United Methodist Church in Nocona.
