Bio

Augustine John (Gus) Ferro 68, died Thursday afternoon in a local hospital. A long-time railroad man, he was born May 15, 1886 in Memphis and came to El Paso in 1914 to make his home. He became associated with the old El Paso and Southerwestern Railroad that year. In 1926 he was transferred to Arizona as traveling passenger agent with Southern Pacific. Mr. Ferro was later promoted to district freight agent, a position he held until of his retirement on May 1, 1954. He then returned to El Paso to reside. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of Pythias. Sports always held a keen interest for Gus. He played second base on ball clubs in Memphis and helped organized the first city recreation league in the nation.
