Funeral service for Elnora L. Bicknase, 85, of Fairmont, MN, will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont with interment in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 30, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Elnora passed away on Sunday morning, December 28, 2014, at the Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont. Elnora Lavern (Holz) Bicknase was born on July 23, 1929 in Chambers, NE, the daughter of Charley and Lena (Emagarten) Holz. She began her education in Nebraska and she moved with her family to Minnesota and lived on different farms near in the Granada, Northrop and Fairmont areas. She attended country schools in all of those districts. Elnora was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop. On January 29, 1950, Elnora was united in marriage to Marvin Bicknase at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. They lived in Fairmont for a short time before moving to the Bicknase Family Farm in Fraser Township. Elnora worked at many different places, her favorite being at St. Johns Vianney School in the after school program, where many of the children considered her their adopted grandma. She was very proud of them, always calling them her kids. In 1984, they retired from farming and moved to Fairmont. Marvin and Elnora were members of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Elnora’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She also loved to help her children whenever she could. She loved shopping, walking, and baking with her girls, working in her flower garden and garage saling. Elnora and Marvin enjoyed their dancing to polkas and waltzes. Those that will cherish her memory include her children, Rev. Keith Bicknase (Becky) of Milbank, SD, Steven Bicknase (Ann) of Mesa, AZ, Kathleen Gunderson (Dr. Mark) of Fergus Falls, MN, Douglas Bicknase (Lorna) of Fairmont, Diane Benson (David) of Stewart, MN, Alan Bicknase of Fairmont, Joann Bicknase of Rochester, MN, James Bicknase of North Mankato, MN; son-in-law, Robert Riess of Brainerd, MN; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Norbert Hines of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Esther Bicknase of Welcome, MN; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Charley and Lena Holz, and husband, Marvin, Elnora was also preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Riess; brothers, Clarence Holz and wife Fern, Carl Holz and wife Ruth, Edward Holz, Duane Holz, Lawrence Holz and wife Pat; sisters, Elizabeth Virus and husband Louie, Dorothy Ottersberg and husband Art, Betty Hines; parents-in-law, Rudolph and Dora Bicknase.
