"Nadine L. Racek, 88 yrs., of Morse Bluff, NE died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Nadine was born September 25, 1926 on the family farm northeast of Prague, NE to John O. and Emma (Kavan) Ladenburger. Nadine was a 1944 graduate of Prague High School and attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont and St. Mary's College in Omaha. She taught K thru 8 in a one- room country school at Districts 54, 91 and 92 for 7 years. In addition to being an excellent homemaker, musician/farmer's wife and loving mother, she also catered for weddings and special parties. In 1951, Nadine started her baking business by opening a Saturday afternoon bake shop in her home. Her claim to fame was the career that she says "brought me an abundance of happiness and fulfillment" as that of the "Kolache Queen," having baked fancy pastries professionally for the past 55 years for arts & craft shows, farmers markets and private orders throughout the United States and internationally. Nadine earned numerous awards and honors for her baked goods, with the highlight of her career being featured in 2012 on NET's "Nebraska Stories" as the Kolache Queen. Nadine was also known for her outstanding Christmas displays on the family farm. In the 1990's, the Raceks hosted several get togethers for the surrounding area and called the event "Christmas Comes Alive at the Racek Farm," where decorations were temporarily replaced by live people. It was attended by several hundred people. Nadine was a spirited, energetic, positive, and spiritual woman whose unconditional love, support and encouragement sustained her family and friends through good and difficult times. She was a treasure indeed. In 2005, Lorin and Nadine received the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award, for continuous ownership of the family farm for 123 years. Nadine Ladenburger married Lorin J. Racek on August 12, 1948 at St. John's Catholic Church in Prague, NE. Lorin died on June 2, 2000.
