Bio
David William Macken 89 of Rochester passed away Friday December 19, 2014. The son of James Joseph and Mary Lillian Macken, Dave was a lifelong resident of Rochester. On October 1, 1949 Dave married Mildred "Midge" Bernard who preceded him in death on July 24, 2012. Dave was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years, retiring in 1980. An avid golfer and gardener Dave tended God's gifts, including his wife and eight children, with love and care. Sincere and fun loving, Dave relished the innocence of his children and grandchildren and delighted in sharing their discoveries and adventures. Many of these explorations involved Dave's deep appreciation for the wonders of nature. Drawing strength and comfort from his Cathloic faith, he was a founding and active member of Saint Pius X Parish. A Dedicated and enthusiastic sports fan, Dave possessed a marvelous memory for sports facts and trivia. Survivors include one sister, 8 children, 8 grand children, 2 great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his brothers James, Francis, Robert and Ralph. His funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Paul Nelson at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Saturday December 27, at 10:30AM. Visitation will be held at Macken Funeral Home Friday, December 26, from 5PM to 7:30PM. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Published in the Post-Bulletin on December 22, 2014 .
