Bio

Mr. Larry Wood, 69, of Henderson, passed away on December 17, 2014, at his residence. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, December 22, at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2014, in the chapel of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Rusk County Memorial Gardens. Larry was born in Orange, Texas, to the late James F. and Opal Wood, and has lived in Henderson for the last 28 years. Larry served his country in the United States Army and retired in 1987 as a Staff Sergeant with the Regular Army. He then went to work and later retired from West Rusk ISD as a custodian and bus driver. Larry was a member of the Rodeo Association and was active in the VFW Posts in Henderson, Overton, Kilgore, and Longview. He was saved at an early age at New London Baptist Church and later attended Grandview Baptist Church and Bar None Cowboy Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Melba D. Wood; his father, James F. Wood; mother and step-father, Opal and Mackie Cates; and brothers, Tony and Herman Wood. Survivors include son, Larry James Wood Jr. and wife, Carole, of Newport News, VA; daughter, Beth Amos and husband, James, of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren: Nick, Marion, and Sam Burk, all of Newport News, Va, and Emma and Jasper Amos, of Virginia Beach, VA; six great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy Terry, of Troup, Linda Daugherty and husband, Jackie, of Henderson, and Cathy Faulkner and husband, Warren, of Houston; brother, Bobby Wood and wife, Sandra, of Livingston; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
