Ruth Laverne Gilchrest Mullins, 88, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2014, at OakCrest Funeral Home, Waco. Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2014, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Amos Humphries officiating. Ruth was born in Gatesville, Texas, to the late Harvey and Lillie Gilchrest. She graduated from high school there. Ruth moved to Waco in her early adult years and worked for the City of Waco as secretary for many years prior to working 15 years in the General Accounting Department at Brazos Electric in Waco. Ruth retired early when she met Curtis Mullins and on April 21, 1978, they married in Waco. She was a homemaker after they married and moved to Round Rock, Texas. They returned to Waco when her husband was transferred to Hercules as a test engineer. After Curtis retired, they frequently traveled the United States and Europe. One of their favorite places to visit was Branson, Missouri, which they they had traveled to several times. Ruth was a member of Park Lake Drive Baptist Church where she was involved in "Busy Beavers" and was a member of the Gleaners Class. Ruth and Curtis were always supporters and fans of their many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis E. Mullins in April, 1995; and brothers, Kenneth V. Gilchrest and Ross E. " Pete" Gilchrest. Survivors include her brother, Don P. Gilchrest and wife, Jean; sister-in-law, Joyce Gilchrest; nephews: Brian Gilchrest and wife, Arlene, Byron Gilchrest and wife, Colleen, and Ross Gilchrest; nieces, Donna Gilchrest and Denise Bain; and several great-nieces and nephews.
