Garnette L. Dilla, 84, of Grand Island died peacefully, Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Grand Island with family by her side. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Todd K. Philipsen will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Garnette was born Dec. 4, 1930, at Ord, to Frank J. and Helen (Nevrkla) Kokes. Garnette grew up and received her education at District 40 in rural Ord. She graduated from Ord High School in 1948. She attended Kearney Teachers College and was a teacher in rural Ord for five years. She married George B. “Jr.” Dilla Jr. on July 7, 1952, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. They lived in Grand Island and Garnette was employed with St. Francis Medical Center for 13 years in housekeeping, retiring in 1998. George died Nov. 28, 2004. Survivors of the immediate family include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Floyd McMullen of Grand Island and Pat and Duane Bosak of Fullerton; four sons, Gerry Dilla of Bettendorf, Iowa; Mark Dilla of Omaha; Jamie Dilla of Bowie, Md.; and Ken Dilla of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Jill) Bosak of Omaha; Krista Bosak of Kansas City, Kan.; Adam and Erin Dilla of Bettendorf, Iowa; Megan and Ben Dilla of Omaha, and Trevor Dilla of Bowie, Md.; four great-granddaughters, Jaylin, Kinslee, Adalin and Breklee Bosak, all of Omaha; one sister, Gladys Gogan of Ord; a half-cousin raised as a brother, Dr. Kenneth (Maria) Shibata of Carroll, Iowa; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan and LaVonne Dilla of Lincoln. Garnette was a Brownie and 4-H leader and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents; husband, George; and sister, Grace O’Connor.
