Jack W. Hobbs, 77 True cowboy Jack W. Hobbs, 77, of Tularosa, left his earthly home on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006. Hobbs was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Coyote to Raymond G. and Mary C. Hobbs. He went to school at Gran Quivira and Carrizozo. He was a beloved father and friend, and an avid storyteller. He loved to entertain people, especially his family and grandkids. One of the last true cowboys, his cowboy career started at age 13. He worked on ranches in New Mexico, Arizona, California and Washington. He worked at several feedlots, was a brand inspector in Luna and Lincoln counties, and inspected cattle on the Mexican border. A veteran of the Army, he served in the Korean War, and received several commendations for bravery and sharp shooting. Jack was married to Amalie "Mali" Dahl and from that union had one son Jack W. Hobbs, Jr. After the death of Mali, he married Loa Jean Bromwich and they had seven children, Ray, Will, Sue, Doug, June, Robin and Mary. After their separation, he married Winnie Mae Hooker and she passed away in July of 1992. He was then with his companion Mary Jo Sellars for the last nine years of his life. Survivors include five sons, Jack W. Hobbs, Jr. and his wife Norma Jean of Bard, Raymond Hobbs and his wife Terry of Buckhorn, William Hobbs of Santa Fe, Douglas Hobbs of Red Rock, Ariz., and Robin Hobbs and his wife Bobbie of Silver City; three daughters, Sue Pugmire and June Bryant of Silver City, and Mary Clark of Tularosa; 26 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary C. Garrison of Mosquero, and Martha McKinley and her husband Don of Tucumcari; two brothers, Joe Hobbs and his wife Nedra of Carrizozo, and Colin Hobbs and his wife Gwen of Valera, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and special friends, Betty Hobbs and Debbie Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Molly and Winnie Mae; four brothers, Ward, Billy, Stennie and baby Hobbs; two sisters, Raymond Brock and her husband George, and Helen Majors; and a brother-in-law Woodrow Garrison. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Carrizozo Community Assembly of God with the Rev. Ray Wells officiating. Committal services will follow in the Ancho Cemetery with the Rev. Floyd Goodloe officiating. Pallbearers will be Jack Hobbs, Jr., Raymond Hobbs, Douglas Hobbs, Robin Hobbs, Randell Majors and Vic McKinley. Honorary pallbearers will be Hobbs' grandsons.
