Bio
Mrs. Vallie E. Payne Griffin, 78, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014, at the Fairfield Nursing and Rehab Center in Fairfield. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Bowers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2014, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague with Bro. Dale Hergett officiating. Interment will follow the services in Woodland Cemetery near Kirvin. Vallie Elisebeth was born in Streetman, Texas, to the late Charlie H. and Polly Mae Bryson Payne, and was a lifelong resident of Freestone County. She worked as a telephone operator for several years before working until her retirement at the Mexia State School. Vallie was also a lifelong farmer and rancher and worked hard bailing hay for many years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Griffin, brothers: Orville Payne, Billy Payne, and Fred Payne; and sister, Bobbie Walker. Survivors include her sons: Roy Edward Griffin and wife, Linda, of Streetman, David Earl Griffin and wife, Yvonne, of Mexia, and Ernest Paul Griffin and wife, Belinda; grandchildren: Shauna Goff and husband, Donny, Tanya Arnold and husband, David, Clint Griffin and wife, Brandi, April Coleman and husband, Shawn, Michael Griffin and wife, Sarah, Kevin Griffin, Justin Griffin, Amanda Griffin, Emily Griffin, and Stacy Griffin; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters: “Tiny” Robinson, of Kirvin, Jimmie Posey, of Mexia, Nancy Yanca and husband Chuck, of Colorado, and Doris Cooper and husband, Richard, of Rosenberg; brother, Frank Payne and wife, Helena, of Waco; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
