Robert Carl “Bob” Hagen was born on 13 February 1932, on the family farm, in rural Bird Island, Renville County, Minnesota, to Frances Glesener and John Hagen. He attended Bird Island schools and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Robert Carl married Mildred Frances “Millie” Serbus on 16 November 1955 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Mildred Frances was born on 12 September 1934 to Mary (Hosek) and John Edward Serbus, Sr., in Flora Township, Renville County, Minnesota. Bob and Millie made their home on their farm south of Bird Island. They had five children. They farmed until Mildred died in August of 1986. Robert Carl was remarried to Mary Lothert on 21 December 1989. They lived on the farm and later moved into the Town of Bird Island. Robert was a member of the Bird Island American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed deer hunting and spending time at the lake. Robert Carl “Bob” Hagen, of Bird Island, Minnesota, died at the age of 63, on Wednesday evening, 27 December 1995, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota. Robert Carl was survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Tom (Rhonda) Hagen, Jeff Hagen, and Jerry Hagen, all of Bird Island, Ronald (Julie) Hagen of Bloomington, and Deborah (Scott) Johnson of Chester, Montana; eleven grandchildren; and, sisters, Florence Padrnos of Appleton, Wisconsin, Helen (Jim) Kopel of Olivia, and Elaine (William) Scholl of Victoria. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred Frances Serbus Hagen; and his brother, Robert Hagen. The funeral service for Robert was held on Saturday, 30 December 1995, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island; Reverend Phil Schotzko officiated. Burial, with military honors, followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bird Island, Renville County, Minnesota.
