Marcella was born in Kentucky to William A. (1818-1867) and Lucinda S.(Clark) Bowles. Marcella traveled to Iowa, where she met her husband Joseph (who was born in New York). Letters helped keep in touch with her parents, who lived and died in Metcalfe County, Kentucky. Marcella Bowles and Joseph Tamisiea both came to Iowa, and were married November 14, 1869 in Pottawatomie County, Iowa. Joseph's parents were born in France, and when he and Marcella came to Missouri Valley, which was right on the railroad, he opened a restaurant. They were blessed with at least five children, all born in Iowa. The 1880 US Census shows the family living in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Joseph D. Tamisiea, 26, head, restaurant Marcella Tamisiea, 30, wife, keeps house Adda K. Tamisiea, 9, daughter Mary E. Tamisiea, 7, daughter William A. Tamisiea, 5, son Henrietta Francis, 3, daughter Josephine Tamisiea, 1, daughter When Henrietta grew up, she was married, and the wedding records show her mother's maiden name as Boles. A transcript of Marcella's own wedding shows the spelling as Bowles, and the handwritten copy of the Will of Marcella's father shows his names as "Bowles". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sources: National Archives; Rose Hill Cemetery book, St. John’s Township Cemeteries, Missouri Valley, Harrison County Genealogical Society, Vol. I, book VIII, c. 1987; kind assistance of FindaGrave volunteer Joy Russell (#47079078) (she also has seen the copy of the will) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Note: Marcella's parents were William A. Bowles (1818-1867) and Lucinda S. CLARK Bowles (1825-1871). At this time it seems that there are no visible markers, although Metcalfe County, Kentucky, records show that they were buried in a cemetery on the "Old Bowles Place now known as the Nunnally Cemetery". Back in those days wooden markers were often used, and they do not stand well the test of time.
