Jess Looney - Hugoan's Funeral Set for Wednesday at Soper Baptist. Services were scheduled to be held Wednesday at 3:30 pm for Jess Looney, 801 W Main, who died at his home here Tuesday. He was 72 years old. Looney, a retired farmer, had lived in this community for 25 years. He was born Nov 7, 1879 in Greenville, TX. Services will be held in the Soper Baptist Church with Rev J B Ward and Rev Francis officiating. Burial under the direction of Bingham-Cooper will be in the Soper cemetery. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Vera Looney, Hugo; one sister, Mrs Susie Hinsley, Hugo; a niece Mrs Flora Wheatley, Lubbock, TX; and a nephew Elmer D Hinsley, Hugo. Jess was the son of John W Looney and Rosanna Mason Looney. Census records show Jess was born in 1881; his World War I Registration Card shows his birth year as 1880. I believe the census records are more accurate; his parents were not married until Dec 1880.
