The Belleville Telescope, December 3, 1987 Bertha Heller Walta, daughter of Jon and Anna Ponec Heller, was born August 14, 1889, at Prague, Czechoslovakia, and died Monday, November 23, 1987, at Wichita, at the age of 98 years, three months and seven days. She immigrated to the United States and settled in Omaha, Nebr., with her family when she was 17 in 1906. She was united in marriage to Louis J. Walta at Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1911, and to this union three children were born. They lived in Omaha, moving to a farm in the Tabor area and later to Munden. Her husband died of injuries suffered from a car accident in 1929. Mrs. Walta and her children continued to farm. She and her son, Louis V. moved to Wichita in the early 1940's, where she remained the rest of her life. She did babysitting for several years. She moved to a care home in 1983. She was a lifetime member of ZCBJ Lodge, and received an achievement award in 1983. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Ladimer E. Walta. She is survived by her son, Louis V.; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Helen B.) Ramsey, both of Wichita; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Broadway Mortuary at Wichita on November 25, with graveside services at the Tabor Cemetery.
