Bio

Lorena Hejl Simek, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2014, with her family at her side. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, in Waco. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, under the direction of Lake Shore Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Seaton Cemetery. Lorena was born in Bell County, Texas, to the late John and Annie Clara Hejl. Lorena's desire was spending time with her family, cooking with a uniqueness and style of her own while making kolaches, sugar cookies, and macaroni and cheese; always making sure to sprinkle love into every dish she prepared. Lorena had a wonderful smile that would light up a room and a heart-felt kindness toward others that welcomed many into her home. She also enjoyed bringing on a "skunk" while playing her domino games. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Alfred Simek; six brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include her daughters: Caroline Banks and husband, Tommy, Linda Nolan and husband, Lonny, Wanda Maddy and Joel Haltom, Janis Drake and husband, Sam, and Lori Hodges and husband, Darrell; son, Larry Simek and wife, Judy; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Schiller; brother, Wilbur Hejl; and many other family and friends.
