Robert Hughie Hudson, son of Melvin Hudson and Violet "Freel" Hudson. Robert Married Mildred Belle Wanek on 11 May 1939 in Douglas, Converse County, Wyoming at the city courthouse. Robert was born in Crawford, Dawes County, Nebraska in a train box car. He lived with his parents and three siblings Calvin Ruby and Lucille for a about 7 years of age. He then went to Sturgis South Dakota at about the age of eight to live with a catholic priest at a Catholic Church in town. The father looked after Robert and Robert helped out the priest with church duties for some time. Robert remembered the Ku Klux Klan burning crosses up on the hill above the church where he stayed with the priest. At age eight Robert was in town at Sturgis while president Hoover stoped by at the train depo Robert had a photo taken with the president. This photo is attached to this memorial. While living in Sturgis South Dakoth Robert met the renowned poker player "Poker Alice". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker_Alice Poker Alice taught Robert how to play cards, cheating the game was always a part of it. He at a young age also lived with his mothers sister in Southern California. He traveled by car on dirt roads from Nebraska where his family lived To Southern California. Robert became a card dealer in Las Vegas in his early adult hood. Robert joins the Utah Local Boil Makers Union working many refineries locally and out of state of Utah. Robert quit the Boil Makers Union and joined the Local 57 Pipe Fitters Union in Salt Lake City Utah retiring at about the year 1987. Robert worked on the Flaming Gorge Dam while it was being built. He also worked on the Palisades Dam in Idaho while it was being built and in Arizona in 1968-1969 he worked on the Davis Dame at Lake Mohave near Bulhead City. He worked on the Huntington power plants and the PacificCorp Hunter Plant from 1973-1983 in Emery County. Roberts last job was at IPP power project in Delta Utah. He was a Forman of his crew belonging to Locat 57. Robert 10th great Grandmother is Pocahontas (Matoaka) Powhatan. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocahontas Robert was a good person with a soft heart. He stood about 6' tall with curly dark brown hair and deep grey brown eyes O+ blood type which often he donated blood to the Salt Lake City blood centers. He was a book worm always reading the Encyclopedia reading up on anything that came to mind, politics mostly. Robert loved fishing with his family. Other interests were the fights. Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. He saw them both fight in Vegas Nevada. Robert loved football, Baseball and basket ball and watching Television. Favorite show was Archie Bunker. Robert was loved by many co-Workers and of course his family. He was the father of three girls, Ramona, Billie, and Mary. 11 grand children Cody, Joe, Tammy and Nona. Carla, Lenny, Tania and Debby. Larry, John, and Amber. He was a great grand father at time of his death. Late in life he married Violet Beynon Ferree. She was related to the Roy and Louise Peck family In Salt Lake City which were great friend of Robert and his first wife Mildred.
DEATH: ROBERT H. HUDSON Published: Sat, June 6 12:00 a.m. MDT 0 comment A-A+ Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Robert H. Hudson, age 72, died June 5, 1992 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born November 3, 1919 in Crawford, Nebraska to Melvin and Violet Freel Hudson. Married Mildred B. Wanek in Douglas, Wyoming, May 11, 1939; she died February 7, 1985. Married Violet Ferree in Salt Lake City October 27, 1990. During his youth, he worked as a ranch hand in the Douglas, Wyoming area. Retired after 42 years as a boiler maker and a pipefitter. He was a member of Local Union # 57. Member of the Catholic Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Served in the Conservation Corp. in the early 1940's. He was an avid fisherman. Survived by wife, Salt Lake City; three daughters, Mona L. Hudson, Douglas, Wyo.; Billie J. Kaufman, and Mary M. Ciet, both Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also stepchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Ferree, Mr. and Mrs. Spence Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Brewster, and Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Ferree. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Curch, 715 West 300 North. A Vigil service will be held Sunday, 7 p.m., at the Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call Sunday, 6-7 p.m. Committal services, Mt.
