Bio

Ona Lucille Rowell, 88, of Amarillo died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Davey officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Ona Lucille Hedger Rowell was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Atoka, Okla., the seventh child in a family of eight. The family moved to Texas before her first birthday. She grew up in Wellington and came to Amarillo during World War II to help our country win the war by working at the Pantex Ordnance Plant. In 1945 she married Oliver Rowell, who preceded her in death in 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Elsie Hedger and a grandson, Kenith Rowell. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Rowell of Amarillo; two sons, Jim Rowell and wife Carolyn of Grand Island, Neb. and Richard Rowell and wife Phyllis of San Marcos; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. (Published in Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 2, 2014)
