The last name might have originally been Repa and somewhere along the way the letters got mixed up and ended up as Rape? When Tereza "Tresie" Rape was born on January 28, 1883, in Brenham, Texas, her father, James Rape, was 32 and her mother, Martha, was 27. She and John Kropp had six sons and two daughters. Daughter Julia was born after Thomas and before Edward. According to what I believe to be her birth certificate in the Washington County records, Terezia Repa was born on 1/28/1884 to Annie Rafael and John Repa. Annie was 30 and John 38. Terezia was the fifth of five living children. Both parents were listed as from Moravia, which syncs with what I was told as a child. My dad said they both spoke mainly Czech. The 1910 census said John spoke English but Terezia spoke German and both parents were from Germany. The 1920 census said Terezia and John could both read & write, their parents were from Moravia and their language was Bohemian. The 1930 census says John didn't read/write but Terezia did & parents were from Germany. The 1950 census wasn't as detailed and simply shows them both living in Granger, Tx. Also, Granger Brethren Church baptismal records show the godparents of at least one of Terezia's children as John & Anna Repa, who are buried in the Granger Brethren Cemetery. The Terezia Rape shown as the daughter of Martha Berry and James Rape could read and write, was born in Texas and moved with her parents to Missouri and then back to Texas according to census records. There aren't any hints for Annie Rafael. The hints for John Repa are those for Rape. I went to try to find the headstone for John & Terezie, which was supposed to be in the vicinity of John & Hermina Kropp's headstone, but couldn't anything suggesting a headstone was there.
