From Porter Loring Mortuary: Mr. Anton Alois Svatek, of San Antonio, passed away October 11, 2014 at the age of 98. He was born in Flatonia, Texas to Frank Svatek and Mary Horak. Anton was a glider pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked as a program director for the Food Stamp Program and served as a Deacon at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Clyde Elizabeth and eight brothers. He is survived by daughters, Antonette Wood and her husband, Charles of Dallas, Patti Gillum of Fort Worth, and Mary Bergmann and her husband Dwaine of San Antonio; six grandchildren: Charles Wood, Michael and Deborah Gillum, Dwaine, Nicholas and Julie Bergmann, and nine great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the Seraphic Franciscan Sisters and all the staff at St. Francis Nursing home for their care. The Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 17th at 7:30 PM at Porter Loring on McCullough. On Saturday, October 18th at 10:00 AM, a Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Rd. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Oblate Missions.
