Funeral services will be held for Edward "Ed" Henry Vaughn, 67, of Nacogdoches, Texas at Laird Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin. He passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, in Houston. Edward was born on June 20, 1947, in Center, Texas to the late Thomas Henry Vaughn and Ella Alice Snider. He grew up in Huxley. He attended Joaquin High School and graduated in 1965. After high school he went on to attend Allreds Business College in Lufkin. In January 1966, Edward met, what he knew from the very beginning, would be his future wife, Joan Patricia Stansel. Edward and Joan dated for six months and on July 8, 1966, they became one. They moved to Euless where they lived about 20 years. While living in Euless, Edward was a Master Mason and a member of Estelle Lodge # 582 of Euless. Edward later moved his family back home to East Texas. Edward was an avid golfer; you would find him, just about every day, enjoying golfing at Woodland Hills with his friends. Edward and Joan enjoyed each other's company; they would travel, and go on cruises together whenever they had a chance. He was very protective and devoted to his wife. Always side by side with his love, Joan. Edward was very well known by many. He was self employed; the owner of Ed's Muffler Shop and Brake Service in Nacogdoches, Texas from 1987-2005. He was a very kind man; always helping others whenever they needed his help, very devoted to his family and friends. Edward was very proud of his family. He loved his darling daughter, Susan, and he adored his granddaughter, Alyssa. He was a member of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joan Patricia Stansel Vaughn; daughter,Susan Cavanaugh and husband, Jeff; granddaughter, Alyssa Cavanaugh; sisters, Bertha Lee Raymond and husband Dean, Mildred Dillard, and Joan O'Rear. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Henry Vaughn and Ella Alice Snider; and his sister, Agnes Bryan. Pallbearers will be ...
