Herald Coaster, February 21, 1999: Funeral services for Casper "Woodie" West, Sr., 82, of Sheridan, Texas, are 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at First Baptist Church of Sheridan, with Rev. Mack Helms officiating. Interment will follow at Cheetham Cemetery in Sheridan. West passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at Rice Medical Center in Eagle Lake, Texas. He was born Nov. 1, 1915 in Sebastian, Hidalgo County, Texas to Franklin West and Margaret Jane (Mangus) West. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad in 1972 after many years of service. He had been a resident of Sheridan since retirement and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sheridan, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Rose Sassin West; second wife, Dorothy "Dokie" Briscoe West; a number of brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter, Lauri Ann Hartman. He is survived by daughters, Rose Hartman and husband, C. Verne, of Alvin, Texas, and Barbara Vogt and husband, Victor Jr., of Richmond, Texas; a son, C.W. West Jr. and wife, Mary Ann, of Rosenberg, Texas; sisters, Helen West of San Antonio and Clara Reed of Pasadena, Texas; grandchildren, Mark Hartman and wife, Mindy, of Seabrook, Texas, Debbie Fontenot and husband, Chad, of Alvin, Texas, Tracy Vogt of Huntsville, Texas, and Stephanie Green and husband, Howard, of Plano, Texas; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and loved ones. Pallbearers will be John C. McCoy, Lloyd Spittler, Gary Wayne Spittler, Everett R. Spittler, C.E. Flippen, and Wayne Dupre. The family has requested memorial contributions be directed to either the American Heart Association or your favorite charity. Friends may call Dulany Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Saturday.
