Bio

Delma Roine (Lefler) Paul, daughter of Ralph and Gladys White Lefler, 78, of Beatrice died on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln. She was born on a farm north of Fairmont on July 4, 1936, and baptized on March 28, 1937 at Fairmont Federated Church. She attended rural grade school at District 11 and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1954. Following graduation, she moved to Lincoln and held various positions for 39 years in the home offices of US Life and Lifeshares. After the companies moved out of Nebraska, she accepted employment in Beatrice as a receptionist/insurance clerk with Dr. E.W. Paquette Chiropractor. On March 2, 1974, Delma was united in marriage to Louis O. Paul of Plymouth at the Fairmont Community Church. She became step-mother to his four children: Debra, Theresa, Pamela and James. Their first home was in Crete and after two and a half years, they moved to Beatrice. She continued to commute to work in Lincoln until 1993. The later years were in Beatrice when she retired in 2004. She joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Crete on August 26, 1974 and later transferred membership to Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice on March 20, 1977. She joined ESA International in 1960 and co-chaired many community philanthropic projects. She served as Nebraska State ESA President in 1972-73. She enjoyed homemaking tasks, sewing, piecing quilts, her employment jobs as well as serving her church in various positions. She compiled Holy Cross Church history from 1966 through 2014 in the form of pictures and written information. Many pictures were taken and scrapbooks prepared for each of the eight grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Louis of Beatrice; three step-daughters, Debra Lawrence and husband Jeffery of Independence, KS, Theresa Hefner and husband Russell of Lindsborg, KS and Pamela Clark and husband Scott of Bettendorf, IA; one step-son, James Paul and wife Rhonda of Beatrice; eight grandchildren, Jamie and Jennifer Lawrence, Nikie Rogers, Charles Hefner, Jessica Ritter, Brandon Clark, Courtney and Colby Paul; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Howard Lefler and wife Donna of Fairmont and Francis Lefler and wife Nancy of Fort Collins, CO; nieces, Marcia Foster and husband Casey and Emily Lefler; nephews, Bradley Lefler and Michael Lefler and wife Lisa; three sisters-in-law, Elda Guthrie of Santa Fe, NM, Elaine Ackerman and Margaret Morrow both of Beatrice. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew, Scott Lefler. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 2, 2024 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice of Pastor William Shaner, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Thursday at the church. The family will meet and greet friends and family from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Fox Funeral Home on Wednesday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice and Burley and Genell Copas in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 12:00 noon Tuesday until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Thursday. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice in charge of arrangements.
