Milo Raymond Stanislav, 85, of Onawa, Iowa formerly of Blencoe, Iowa passed on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 in Kansas City, Missouri from complications related to cardiac surgery. Milo Raymond Stanislav was born August 31, 1929 in Valparaiso, Nebraska the son of George E. and Agnes (Vlcan) Stanislav. Born in a large Czech community in Nebraska, Milo came to the Blencoe area as an infant when his parents, along with several members of the Stanislav family, settled there to farm. His early years were at the country school (speaking only Czech at first) and graduating from the now razed Blencoe High School. Religion was a driving force in his life. Milo was a life long member of St. Bernard's in Blencoe and St. John's in Onawa; he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, once holding the position of Grand Knight. Milo married his red headed sweetheart, Mary Walker on April 14, 1951 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Blencoe, Iowa, and they have been married for sixty-three years. A career farmer, Milo was a devoted family man, a proud Grandpa, a fisherman, shrewd card player, avid reader, bowler. Horseshoe player, and was no stranger to polka and square dancing. He served for over a decade on the board of the Blencoe Coop, and was a much loved member of the community with a true servant's heart. It's been said that Milo was never seen in a fit of anger, his easy going nature was the living definition of "don't sweat the small stuff". Growing up on a farm (the early years during the depression), he had a strong work ethic and appreciation for nature, friends, family and the small blessings in life like rich cream straight from the cow, fresh apricots from his grandfather's tree, a great hand in Pitch or one of Mary's famous pies. When Milo was sixteen, his father was paralyzed in a car accident. Upon graduating from high school, Milo took his father's place on the farm with the help of nearby relatives, and he and his siblings pitched in during his father's thirteen year confinement, his mother's losing battle with cancer, and his sister Irene's struggle with rheumatic fever. All while living with and caring for his grandfather (post stroke), a cousin dying from polio, and an invalid aunt. Through it all, he remained optimistic, grateful, faithful, and although shy- had a great sense of humor. Survived by his wife, Mary, of the home in Onawa, IA; brother, Dennis (Edna Mae) Stanislav of Blencoe, IA; sister, JoAnne (Bob) Lampe of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Lola Stanislav of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, Gordon (Mabel) Walker of Onawa, IA; sister-in-law, Pat Walker of Onawa, IA; daughter, Dianne Hodges of Jefferson City, MO; sons, Bernard (Penny) Stanislav of Kimberling City, MO, Richard Stanislav of Blencoe, IA, and James (Lorri) Stanislav of Shawnee, KS; grandchildren, Vanessa Meister, Byron (Ora) Stanislav, Sonji (Michael) Lay, Kari Jo (Troy) Mallett, Bailey, Steve, and Julia Stanislav, Kristen, Jay, and Erik Stanislav, Tara (Darren) Silhavey, and Bryan (Brandi) Walsh; numerous cousins, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a community of friends who will miss him greatly.
