Bio
In the January 1, 1925, Census for Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, Clara stated that her parents were Aaron and Nora (Keithley) Ishmael. Clara was first married to Louis E. Shoemaker, and they had seven children. Clara's granddaughter has provided me with the following information: "They were divorced after 35 years. She remarried to a Herman Wilks from Knoxville, IA., and divorced, then married to George Gee. Louis never remarried and died in Arlingdton, TX in 1977." Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” October 20, 1982: Former Ottumwan Clara M. Gee, 80, of Fairfield Route 4 died there at 9:15 p.m. Oct. 19. She as born Nov. 16, 1901. She married George R. Gee Nov. 22, 1979, at Knoxville. He died in 1975. Survivors: sons Joseph Shoemaker of Woodbridge, Va., Harold Shoemaker of Candler, N.C., and Robert Shoemaker of Arlington, Texas; daughters, Louis [sic-should be Louise] Stoher of Richmond, Va., Eva of Dallas, Texas, Jean Hiatt of Fairfield Route 4 and Elly Alexander of Cherokee; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services: pending at Johnson Funeral Chapel. Visitation: after Thursday noon. “Gee services,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” October 21, 1982: The service for former Ottumwan Clara M. Gee, 80, of Fairfield Route 4, who died Oct. 19, will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Cevil Simonton of Davis Street Christian Church will officiate. Burial: Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers: grandons and nephews. The casket will be closed as [the] service begins. Memorial: American Heart Association.
