Bio
Maurene J. Conkle, 91, passed away Friday, March 10, 2006, after a short illness. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Laurel Land Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Dallas. Maurene was born in Bruceville, Texas, to the late Telley and Bonnie James McClain. She grew up and lived most of her life in Dallas. In August of 1932, she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and remained there until her retirement after 42 years, 10 months and one day of service. She married William "Bill" R. Conkle in 1952 and was widowed in December of 1972. Together, they had two daughters and their family also included his two sons and a daughter from a previous marriage. After retiring from the telephone company, Maurene grew bored and returned to work in an industry she always loved...shoes and clothing. She worked as a salesperson in a major department store and loved every minute of it. In April, 2005, she moved to Port Angeles to be closer to her youngest daughter and her husband. Maurene was an avid reader, a rabid Dallas Cowboy's fan and gifted homemaker. Her tenacious spirit, sense of fairness, forgiving nature and positive attitude will be greatly missed. Her complete love and faith in God made all these things possible. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Eiland and husband, Merwyn, of Port Angeles, Wash; son, Edwin Conkle and wife, Berta, of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren, Eric Conkle and wife, Lucille, of Garland, Kevin Conkle, of Dallas, Christine Timberman and husband, John, of Port Angeles, Wash., Brett Eiland and wife, Jenifer, of Port Angeles, Wash. and Clay Eiland and wife, Noel, of Dallas; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Robbie Lee McClain and Bonnie Jean Harkins, of Frisco; and brother, Glenn Dean "Jiggs" McClain and wife, Virginia, of Fort Worth.
