Bio

Allen James Serbus was born on 06 July 1954, in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota, to James Albert and Marion Gloria Revier Serbus. He graduated from Olivia High School in 1972 and was active in 4-H for many years. After high school, Allen joined the National Guard and did his basic training and AIT in California. He served in the Minnesota National Guard for 24 years. Allen was a lifelong farmer and worked at Revier Feedlots prior to his death. Allen married Nancy Schmidt on 05 April 1975 at Redwood Falls. After their marriage, they made their home in rural Olivia. They were the parents of three children. Allen enjoyed spending time outdoors; especially at the lake. Allen James Serbus, of rural Olivia, died at the age of 44, on Monday evening, 03 May 1999, at this home. Allen was survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Jason and Jesse; daughter, Jennifer; parents, James and Marion Revier of Olivia; brother, Loren (Julie) Serbus of Olivia, sisters, Doreen (John) Jensen of Redwood Falls, Colleen (Bryan) Johnson of Kasson, and Maureen (Brad) Mitchell of Delhi; mother-in-law , Phyllis Schmidt of Redwood Falls; brothers-in-law, Randy Schmidt of Worthington, Allan Schmidt of Worthington, Kevin (Yvonne) Schmidt of Jackson, and Jeffrey (Joan) Schmidt of Redwood Falls; and many nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Elmer Schmidt. Visitation for Allen was on Thursday, 06 May, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continued on Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. The funeral service for Allen was held on Friday, 07 May 1999, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Reverend Monsignor Arthur S. Thomas officiating. Burial followed in the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Olivia, Renville County, Minnesota.
