Bio

Despite the fact that many of his friends knew there was little chance for recovery, the announcement of the death of Frank Krahulik last Sunday, March 15, was a distinct shock. Mr. Krahulik has been prominent in Valley county business circles for a number of years. He has a large circle of acquaintances and numbered his friends by those who knew him. His funeral, held Tuesday afternoon, was one of the most largely attended ever held in Ord. Frank Krahulik was born in Kolovec, Okres Domažlice, Plzeňský (Plzen), Bohemia, on Dec 13, 1865, and was 59 years, 4 months and 2 days old at the time of his death. He came to West Point, Nebraska, at the age of 14 years. He was married to Anna Vnuk, on Sep 6, 1888. Eleven children were born to them, seven of them, with the wife remaining to mourn the going of a good and loving husband and father. The remaining children are Leo of Roy, Montana, Rudolph of Ord, Mrs. Jos. Parkos and Mrs. John Beran and Bess, Alma and Mildred at home, all of this community. Frankie died in 1899, aged 6 years and Charlie, Lumir and John died May 20, 1914 at the ages of 15, 13, and 11 respectively. Mr. Krahulik is survived by 2 brothers, Joseph of Omaha and Otto of Colorado, also one sister, Mrs. Janecek. Mr. Krahulik lived for some time at Leigh where he was engaged in farming. Later he conducted a hardware store at Clarkson. The family moved to Valley county in 1903 and lived on a farm 13 miles west of Ord till 1915 when they moved to Ord and he engaged in the real estate and insurance business. Mr. Krahulik was always active in every movement calculated to help the farmers. He assisted in organizing the Farmers Grain & Supply Co., and was long a director in the company. He also assisted in organizing the Ord State Bank and was a director and at the time of his death was vice president of that institution. He was also a stockholder and director in the Farmers & Merchants bank at Comstock. He was also active in the organization of the Farmers Mutual Ins. Co. of Valley county and its president until the company was sold a few years ago and he served in minor offices in his home community, always with credit to himself and profit to his community. He was an active member of the ZCBJ organization and nearly always held an official position in that lodge and was one of the officers at the time of his death. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the ME church, with his pastor, Rev. Hanson officiating, assisted by Mr. Sepan of Omaha, a high official of the ZCBJ lodge. As stated above the funeral was very largely attended and an abundance of flowers bore mute testimony of the high esteem in which the departed was held by his neighbors and friends. Interment was in the Ord Cemetery. Source: Ord Quiz, Ord, Nebr, Thurs, Mar 19, 1925, Page 1, Column 5
